The Homestead Kitchen - A Place for The Holiday Wanna Be Martha Stewarts

THANKSGIVING
`````````````````````````````````
The Holiday Feast will begin in less than ten days.
I would like to know who on earth chose the biggest eating day of the year to take place on a Thursday?
Why not Friday?
I guess you have to have an extra long weekend to digest all of that food.
If you are African American living in the South you know exactly what I mean!!!
There won't be healthy salads, steamed vegetables, and lean turkey on our menu...our salads appear in the form of that congealed, pineapple, lime green, cream cheese stuff, or potato salad, or macaroni salad, nothing lite fare here...
Our tables usually have at least 10 entrees...in addition to the salads above; there is the macaroni and LOTS of cheese, candied yams(floating in a syrupy bliss), beans (salted beyond taste), collards with seasoning (AKA fatback), rice (with gravy), cornbread (with butter), rolls with "lots of butter" (and yes, we have both breads), turkey (fried), rib roast (with a nice juicy layer of fat), and of course the side order of CHITLINS drenched in hot sauce (by the way, if you don't know what chitlins are its probably best that you don't ask).
There you have it ...
More entrees than people and we didn't discuss desserts.
I won't fool myself into thinking that I will hit the gym on Friday. That's Nonsense ... Thanksgiving is the official day the diet gets kicked to the curb for the rest of the year.
Whatever weight I am right now will have to suffice. I am even willing to accept an additional 10 lbs so I can relax and enjoy the holidays without guilt. There is nothing Chico's Travel Wear can't disguise.
Another thing I WON'T be doing the day after Thanksgiving is any doggone shopping! My money will be sitting at home with me on the coach watching Life Time...Thank you very much.
The shopping, the cooking, the eating, the cleaning... makes me tired just thinking about it.
So, I want to know who are these wanna be Martha Stewarts that get such pleasure working in the kitchen?
Today, I surveyed people in my office to see if they go to such elaborate extent to prepare food for the Holidays ... And if so, what is their special dish that they prepare for their Thanksgiving feast...
Oh my, you should have heard their stories and recipes.
Starting tomorrow, I will share with you some of the more exotic and interesting dishes from South Carolina to Georgia (the one in Europe)... and give you the details on how to prepare it.
Wait till you hear about the Thanksgiving Ham Stuffed with Greens ... Now that's a winner for any table!
Hey, if you have a one of a kind, regional family recipe, that you would like to share... please post. I will have a contest to see who wins the "Chiltlin Dish" of the year.
Bon Appétit
